The Erasmus+ team of Higher Education Reform Experts (HERE) held on 29 November 2017 at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education a workshop on “Programme design to address employability”. This event has been organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, as part of a series of Erasmus+ events contributing to higher education reform at national level.
The event started with welcome notes by Aref Alsoufi, Director of National Erasmus+ Office, Lebanon, by Mr. Fouad Rahmeh, President of Lebanese Businessmen Association (RDCL), by Mr. Paul Abi Nasr representing Fadi Gemayel, President of Association of Lebanese Industrials, and by Dr. Ahmad Jammal, Director General of Higher Education.
In the first session, Professor Gilberto Antonelli from the University of Bologna, Italy, gave a presentation on the “Graduates and graduates’ jobs in Europe after a first round of the Bologna Process. Evidence from the past and future scenarios for employability”. This session was moderated by Pierre Gedeon, a HERE expert.
In Session 2, five EU funded projects addressing employability in Lebanon were presented: the Tempus project PACOME was presented by Nizar Hariri, USJ; the Tempus project OIPULES was presented by Nathalie Bitar, AUF; the two Tempus projects DEFI and SEMSEM were presented by Chawki Diab, CNAM Lebanon, and the Erasmus+ project RESUME was presented by Véronique Kazpard from the Lebanese University. This session was introduced and moderated by Hervé Sabourin, the Regional Director of the Bureau Moyen-Orient, AUF.
In Session 3, a local study on “Key elements to gainful employment” was presented by Jennifer Skulte-Ouaiss from LAU. Models for assessing employability and innovation in curricula profiles: The AlmaLaurea contribution was presented by Gilberto Antonelli. A case of the Tempus project ADIP was explained by Daher El Aily from AUL and Mario Sassine from USEK. This session has been moderated by Pierre Gedeon.
A conclusion session was moderated by DG Ahmad Jammal, Gilberto Antonelli, Pierre Gedeon and the Director of Erasmus+ Lebanon Aref Alsoufi.
This event offered a good occasion to different stakeholders to reflect on this issue and exchange ideas and experiences. A set of recommendations has been drafted and will be sent to all participants before being finalised.
79 persons representing 28 Lebanese HEI, the ministry of Education and Higher Education, the Association of Lebanese Industrials, the Lebanese Businessmen Association, l’Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie, the Universities Association of Lebanon plus independent experts and enterprises representatives attended this event.
